KC DRIVE-IN CONCERTS ARE BACK—WITHOUT THE CARS
KC’s West Bottoms come alive with some great jazz at the Black Box Jazz Series, located at 1060 Union Avenue, around the corner from The Ship. Tickets and information on the shows is available now at www.blackboxkc.com/jazz.
“We started out with Chris Hazelton and Paula Saunders and the Kansas City Jazz Orchestra in August,” explained Black Box Theatre founder Heidi Van. “KC is a city of riches when it comes to performing artists, they needed a stage, and we were able to provide one.” The Black Box, founded by Van, founder of Fishtank Theatre, and managed by KC theatre veterans Katie Gilchrist & Rusty Sneary, pivoted during the pandemic to present music, theatre, film, and dance outside, specifically with safety in mind. Upcoming shows include two KC favorites: the KCJO on September 10 and 26 and the Marcus Lewis Big Band on October 10. Guests of the series have two seating options at The Black Box: reserved seating (for up to groups of 4) and general admission. General Admission is $20, and guests must bring their own chair to set up in the fenced-in yard of The Black Box. Reserved seating is $30 a person, this includes a chair and table (that can accommodate up to 4 guests.) Masks are required inside the building where restrooms are located. The Tree Hugger Truck, a, vegan eatery, will be next door and food purchased there may be brought into the Box. A Missouri Arts Safe certified venue, the Black Box has a full bar and many non-alcoholic options. Outside beverages are not allowed.
