Eat, Drink, and be Jolly for the Folly Garden Party

Writer's picture: JAMJAM

On June 6th, Folly Theater Development Director, Brian Williams, will open his garden at his beautiful and historic Hyde Park home to help raise funds for Kansas City’s only remaining and operational 19th-century performing arts center, the Folly Theater. The funds raised at this “spring- in-full-bloom” party help pay for operations and maintenance of the “Grand Lady of 12th Street” and to book internationally acclaimed artists for our recurring Jazz Series.

Garden party guests are treated to live jazz music, a picnic lunch filled with all the summer comfort foods including fried chicken as well as plenty of libations, all set in a beautifully arranged and blooming garden.

With the help of underwriters, sponsors, and attendees, last year’s socially-distanced event in September of 2020 raised over $60,0000 for the Folly! We hope this year’s event will be doubly successful to help make up for the loss of income from canceled and postponed events and bookings at the theater due to the ravishes of covid and the necessary restrictions that limited attendance and shut down operations.

If you would like to sponsor, underwrite, and/or attend this event, please contact Brian Williams at 816-842-5500 ext. 102 or email him at Brian@follytheater.org. You can also find out more by visiting our website, Follytheater.org/folly-garden-party/. (Optional curbside pickup picnic baskets will be available, and Covid protocols will be practiced.)

Folly Golf Classic

Planning for this year’s Folly Golf Classic is underway. The Classic will take place on June 18th at Deer Creek Golf Club in Overland Park, KS. We are excited to be able to “swing” for the Folly this year after missing last year’s event. Our previous event in 2019 raised over $50,000 for the Folly.

This will be a fun-filled afternoon on the golf course. We’ve ordered sun and 70 degrees and will have box lunches and plenty of special holes for all! There will a scotch and cigar bar at the end to celebrate the last hole of the day. We will also have a raffle for a couple of cases of various wines for your enjoyment later.

We are hoping to have at least 25 four-person teams at our event to raise funds for one of Kansas City’s treasured landmarks. By participating in this year’s Folly Classic, you can help give this piece of history a bright and enduring future that will continue to provide programming for our Jazz Series, Kids Series, Americana series, as well as serving as a preferred venue for the Friends of Chamber, Harriman-Jewell Series, and the Heartland Men’s Chorus among others.

If you would like to join us on the golf course or would like to sponsor, please contact Brian Williams at 816-842-5500 ext. 102 or brian@follytheater.org. You can also visit our website at follytheater.org/golfclassic/. (Covid protocols will be practiced.)
