JCCC’s Fall 2022 Ruel Joyce & Jazz Series Recitals Begin in September


Overland Park, Kan. – Ruel Joyce and Jazz Series recitals resume this fall on Mondays and Tuesdays at noon in the Midwest Trust Center’s Polsky Theatre and Yardley Hall, Johnson County Community College.

Now in their 34th year, these hour-long, in-person recitals feature some of Kansas City’s most respected professional classical and jazz musicians. They are free and open to the public on a first come, first-seated basis. Visit jccc.edu/recitalseriesfor details.

The series kicks off Sept. 13 with a tribute to Kansas City native and jazz innovator Charlie Parker. Gerald Spaits, on bass, and Charles Perkins, on alto, will perform music written by Parker—showcasing some best-loved pieces from his performances. This celebration will take place in a special location: Nerman Museum Atrium, Regnier Center.

ALSO OF NOTE October 21, 2022, 8:00 p.m. – Kansas City Jazz Orchestra and the Hanover Big Band will square off in what promises to be a thrilling display of jazz virtuosity! Celebrate the creative thread that joins these Sister Cities as the Hanover Big Band returns to Kansas City for another joyful collaboration with KCJO. The evening will feature works by Lionel Hampton, Benny Goodman and more.
