KCJA Meet Ups Set for January, February & March

KC Jazz Ambassadors will get together at Johnnie’s Jazz Club, 14th and Main, on Tuesday, January 11 to support up and coming jazz musicians. The music swings from 7 to 9pm at January’s "Future of Jazz” concert, featuring a jazz ensemble from KC Kansas Community College under the direction of top sax player and jazz instructor Jim Mair.

“Our November and December Meet Ups at Johnnie’s Jazz Club drew lots of KC area jazz venues,” noted KC Jazz Ambassador board member Lynn Abrams. “We’re keeping the party going on January 11, with more shows on February 8 and March 8. Come out, have dinner and drinks and enjoy some great Kansas City jazz.”

After the KCK band in January, the UMKC Conservatory returns with a combo on Tuesday, Feb 8. March 8 welcomes the jazz ensemble from Ottawa University in nearby Baldwin, KS; well-known jazz saxophonist Todd Wilkinson directs the jazz program at Ottawa.

The KCJA Future of Jazz series is sponsored by members of the Jazz Ambassadors, who contribute thru their annual dues to the organization’s scholarship and Musicians Assistance Fund programs.
